Common questions

How do I remove GST from an inclusive amount?

Divide the inclusive amount by (1 + rate/100): a GST-inclusive ₹1,180 at 18% contains a net of ₹1,000 and tax of ₹180. The reverse mode of this calculator does exactly that, with the CGST/SGST or IGST split shown.

What are the GST rates in 2026?

Since 22 September 2025 the main slabs are nil, 5%, 18% and 40% — the earlier 12% and 28% slabs were merged into them. Gold and silver remain at 3% and rough diamonds at 0.25%. For periods before that date, the old 5/12/18/28 structure applies — use the Custom rate for those.

How is GST split between CGST and SGST?

For a supply within one state, the tax splits equally: at 18%, CGST is 9% and SGST/UTGST is 9%, paid to the Centre and the State respectively. For inter-state supplies the whole 18% is charged as IGST. The economics are identical for the buyer; the split matters for credit utilisation and reporting.
