Common questions

What must a GST tax invoice contain?

Rule 46 of the CGST Rules prescribes the particulars: a consecutive serial number, date, supplier's name, address and GSTIN, recipient details, place of supply, HSN/SAC codes, description, quantity and unit for goods, taxable value, rate and amount of CGST/SGST or IGST, whether tax is payable on reverse charge, and signature. This generator produces all of them in a printable format.

When is IGST charged instead of CGST and SGST?

It depends on the place of supply: an intra-state supply (supplier's state and place of supply the same) attracts CGST plus SGST/UTGST in equal halves, while an inter-state supply attracts IGST at the full rate. This tool reads the state from each GSTIN and applies the split automatically.

How do I check whether a GSTIN is valid?

A GSTIN's fifteenth character is a mathematical check digit, so format-level validity can be verified instantly — this tool does that and detects the state from the first two digits. Whether the registration is active and whose name it carries must be confirmed on the GST portal's Search Taxpayer facility, which the tool links to.
